Masculine-Inspired Décor

Bachelor pad. It’s not often thought of as synonymous with a stylish, sophisticated space… try neon bar signs and signed athletic uniforms. However, bachelor pads don’t have to fall into this clichéd stereotype. There are a lot of ways to design and decorate a tasteful, current, but still masculine home.

This “Maxwell Sofa” from Restoration Hardware is a great staple for any manly living room. It’s classic and will not limit what you can do with the rest of the room. In a dark neutral it offers a great starting point and can be dressed up or down very easily.

This room is from one of my interior design projects. A game room can be part of any home without looking tacky or too childish. (Not to mention, it’s every guy’s dream). This beautiful dark wood pool table is paired with simple dark walls and medium tone wood flooring. The use of rich, earthy tones in this room gives it a warm feeling, as well as a vintage-esque vibe.

Black leather furniture can look extremely tasteful, sophisticated, and strong when there isn’t an overload of it in the home. This Womb™ Chair in Leather from Design Within Reach is a great way to add some texture without making it gratuitous. The thin legs and interesting geometric shape of this chair give it a very modern, yet masculine edge.

Closets are one part of the house that many men don’t put too much thought into.  This dressing room is from a project of mine where the intention to make a closet that a man would actually not mind spending time in. The large dark stained cherry wood dressers and cabinets keep the room feeling masculine, but are still not too overwhelming or bulky. There’s even a one-way mirror that hides a television. Who wouldn’t want that?

Lighting is so important in any home, and can truly change the way that an entire space looks and feels. This sleek, steel shade with silver putter finish is perfect for over a dining room table or desk.  The finish gives the light a sleek industrial feel and the counterweight and pulley allow for changing the height of the pendant on the fly.
